Chris Wood had his little lad watch him at the Masters

ENGLISH golfer Chris Wood clearly believes in making sure youngsters get the bug very early.

His six-week-old son Jonah has been at the course with mum Bethany as she follows Woody.

She said he slept the whole way round on day one, as dad battled to an opening 74. A slightly older patron is Allen Brown from Alabama.

His 94th birthday present is a week at Augusta.

ONE of the most familiar sights at Augusta is the Pecan Lady waiting to hand out free nuts by the ninth green.

But Catherine Luckey, 71, is empty-handed this year. She says security crackdowns mean she cannot bring her usual sack of pecans to the course. Shame.

THE new media centre, built from scratch in just ten months at around 121million is so state of the art.

Journalists are not permitted to post pictures or videos of the amazing facility but the snaps on the European Tour website show what Im talking about.

The new Augusta media centre is a sight to behold

The entrance looks like something put together for a remake of Gone With The Wind. So what has become of the centre home for my previous 18 Masters?

As Rhett Butler once said: Frankly my dear, I dont give a damn!

THE reporter sat next to me is from the Amarillo Globe News and yes, I have been itching to break into song, in the style of Tony Christie/Peter Kay.

But he mustve heard that one a million times, so trying to come up with new ways to ask the obvious has been killing me. Can you give me directions to your home town? doesnt cut it.

THE high winds that buffeted the course in the opening round sent scores soaring.

The average mark of just over 75 was the highest for ten years.

But despite the freak weather that has plagued Augusta so far this week, it could have been a lot worse.

As The Masters teed off on Thursday, half an hour away in South Carolina they were clearing up after a force-two tornado brought winds of more than 115mph, causing damage along a path 7.3 miles long and 1,000 yards wide.

By contrast, the strongest wind-gust recorded here at Augusta was a mere 40mph.
