Sport Book Service | Jim Furyk urges US Ryder Cup stars to have huge chip on their shoulder for next years event in Paris

The US Ryder Cup team will be hoping to end a winless run in Europe that dates back to 1993

JIM FURYK wants his Ryder Cup players to go into battle with a huge chip on their shoulders over their incredible 25 year losing streak in Europe.

Furyk and European rival Thomas Bjorn were all smiles as they hit balls off the Eiffel Tower yesterday, but the American captain says there will be no love lost when the USA defend the trophy in Paris next September.

The Yanks were hailed as one of the greatest teams ever after they followed up their thumping 17-11 victory at Hazeltine last year by putting the Internationals to the sword in the Presidents Cup.

Their line-up is packed with exciting young players such as Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Patrick Reed.

But Furyk says he will stress the Americans dismal record over here to make sure there is no hint of complacency as they seek their first away victory since 1993.

He explained: I think as a team from the United States we still have something to prove. We have 25 years of scars to overcome. So we will come here with a big chip on our shoulder.

Right now we do hold the cup, but its been a long time since weve been able to win it here in Europe.

"I think in order to validate what we have been working on we are going to have to win on both sides of the pond.

ROARING BACK: Tiger Woods smashes a driver in his Sunday red to show comeback is on track

The American captain also welcomed to the news that Tiger Woods has been given the all-clear to swing flat out following his fourth back operation.

He added: I think that's great news. The swing that I saw on that video looked a lot like the old Tiger Woods. It reminded me of his swing of the past.

But we really don't know when Tiger will be healthy. We really don't know when he'll return to competitive golf.

"But I will say that Tiger Woods is a great resource and would be a welcome addition to the team, whether as a player or a vice-captain.

Bjorn will motivate his players by reminding them how much losing stung last year and how much more painful it would be to be beaten in front of their own fans.

Hazetline was the scene of only the second European defeat in the last eight Ryder Cups, and Bjorn commented: We have had a great record recently, at home and away, but losing always hurts.

And we need to remember that winning doesnt come easy. We are going to be up against a very strong team, but when I look at the world Rankings I see 11 Europeans in the top 21 Im pretty certain that has never happened before.

We have some very talented young players of our own, and I like what I see when I look in their eyes. I see belief, I see hunger, I see determination, and I see people who are not going to back off. That fills me with confidence.
