UEFA look set to enter into talks with the European Club Association over proposed radical changes to the Champions League.
The Times claims Juventus president and ECA chairman Andrea Agnelli has sent a blueprint of his revolutionary new plans to all 232 member clubs.
He wants promotions and relegations to become a part of European football.
While there would be added continental games for the top teams, making the competition even more exciting.
Agnelli proposes that the changes come into effect in 2024.
And he hopes UEFA will take heed of his wishes, with the ECA clubs convening for a special meeting in June.
A NEW HOPE
Agnelli wants the groups changed to four leagues of eight teams, which would result in each team playing at least 14 games a season.
The top six in each group would then automatically earn a place in next terms Champions League.
Agnelli reckons this would provide the competition with higher sporting quality.
And it would award teams based on their performances, not their history.
But critics believe only big teams such as Agnellis Juventus would benefit, as a revamped competition using those rules would guarantee a bigger slice of the money pie for the top sides.
However, Agnelli believes his plan is the only way forward and has urged all ECA members to boycott a meeting organised by the European Leagues body next month, which is looking to preserve the status quo.
Agnelli said: It is not appropriate for European Leagues to be inviting ECA members and we recommend that you do not attend this meeting.
In the even that you do deem your presence worthwhile, we would ask that you insist not to be associated in any formal manner with any communication that may arise from the meeting as the European Leagues will surely try to do.
