Jurgen Klopp is reportedly considering a year's sabbatical when his Liverpool contract expires

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly considering a year's sabbatical when his contract at Anfield comes to an end in 2022.

The 51-year-old won his first trophy in charge of the Reds on Saturday when he guided his side to Champions League glory against Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano.

It has been reported that the Merseyside outfit will offer the German a pay rise to 10million-a-year as a reward for the club winning their sixth European Cup.

But according to ESPN, Klopp could take a year off work when his current deal at Liverpool expires.

They claim that the club's owners are hopeful he will commit his long-term future to them, but they are mindful not to pressure him into an agreement.

ESPN state that Klopp has spoken to his family about taking time away from football due to the 'very intense' demands of management.

The Fenway Sports Group are desperate for Klopp to remain at Liverpool, but they will only offer him a new contract should the ex-Borussia Dortmund gaffer ask for one.

Speaking about the former Mainz boss's contract situation prior to the clash against Spurs, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner said: "We dont really want to discuss his situation publicly, especially so close to the final.

"But I think you know that we think the world of him. We have already extended his contract once.

"All I can say is that its obviously important that he stays for as long as he likes. We believe that hes committed to Liverpool."

Klopp succeeded Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool in October 2015, and has won 86 out of his 144 matches in charge, losing on just 20 occasions.
