Woods wrote on social media that he will play The Northern Trust at Liberty National in New Jersey and then at following week's BMW Championship at Medinah in Illinois.

And the Masters champion could then make it three weeks on the bounce should he qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta an event he won last year for his first victory since 2013.

The legend is 27th in the standing currently and needs to stay in the top 30 in order to be eligible to play at East Lake.

Woods has only played four tournaments, with just three majors, since his stunning triumph at the Masters in April.

He missed the cut earlier this month in the Open, and he admitted that historic win at Augusta National had left him drained, forcing him to play a limited schedule.

The American, who has had four back and knee surgeries during his career, said: "Getting myself into position to win the Masters, it took a lot out of me.

"I want to play here as long as I possibly can and you have to understand if I play a lot, I won't be out here that long."
