OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER'S biggest night so far as Manchester United manager left him rueing an amazing, unwanted stat.
United's 1-0 quarter-final opening-leg loss to Barcelona was the first time since losing by the same scoreline at AC Milan in March 2005 that they have failed to get a shot on target in a Champions League game.
On that occasion it sealed a 2-0 exit for United on aggregate.
So at least all is not yet lost this time for Solskjaer as he prepares for the Nou Camp return leg next Tuesday.
But social media was quick to mock misfiring United as they struggled to trouble Barca in a somewhat disappointing clash
One follower tweeted an image of Solskjaer's predecessor Jose Mourinho - who was berated for plodding, defensive football - with the accompanying question: "Is Mourinho back?"
But others claimed Barcelona were not much better.
One rated the La Liga champions as "awful" and another asked of the shot-count: "How many did Barcelona have?"
The answer, in fact, was just three.
United, meanwhile, amassed ten goal attempts in all, every one of them off target.
And Barcelona had six efforts - putting half of them wide.
Which all suggests this tweet was about right: "Really timid!"
