Sport Book Service | Ryder Cup 2018: Moliwood pairing of Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood make history as Europes best ever double act

Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood are the greatest European pairing ever

TOMMY FLEETWOOD and Francesco Molinari made 'Moliwood' the greatest pairing in European history as Thomas Bjorn's side put one hand on the Ryder Cup with a 10-6 lead going into the singles.

And there was particular pain for a "pi**ed off" Tiger Woods as he was on the whipping end of three of those defeats from the dream duo.

Southport sensation Fleetwood became the first rookie since American Larry Nelson in 1979 to win his first four matches - the first European debutant ever.

Fleetwood said: "We were really, really good this afternoon. To have your own little piece of history together is very special. We've had a great time."

Moliwood wiped out Woods and Bryson DeChambeau 5&4 after winning 4&3 in the morning fourballs over Woods and Patrick Reed.

Then they hammered Major winners Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth 5&4 in the foursomes.

Here's how another historic afternoon unfolded at Le Golf National.

Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson beat Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka 2&1

Americans go one up through three but concede the fourth as Europeans build two up lead through 11 only for two-shot swing on 12 to reduce it to one once more.

A birdie on 13 makes it two again but Koepka knocks second shot on 15th to gimme range and Rose misses birdie putt. Stenson holes crucial putts on 16 and 17 to win the match.

Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren lost to Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson 3&2

Astonishingly halved the par-three second in triple bogeys after both teams found water, with Simpson holing 20ft putt to cap off officially the worst hole in Ryder Cup history.

Watson pulled a drive on the tenth into thick rough and Europe won the hole with a par but that only reduced deficit to three and Simpson sealed the win when he slotted a 15ft birdie putt on the par-three 16th.

Reaction from Ryder Cup Team Europe heroes Rory Mcilroy and Francesco Molinari after they extend lead over Team USA

Birdie on the first sets the tone for more American misery and a birdie on the ninth extends the lead to five.

But then the US duo fight back with birdies on ten and 11 only for Fleetwoods magic putter to strike again with a birdie on par-four 12th and Molinari holes winning birdie putt on par-five 14th.

Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy lose to Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas 4&3

Europeans win the first two holes with pars but US pair win three in a row from the fourth despite playing them in just level par.

Poulter gets hot with the putter to keep it alive but American buddies birdie four of their past five holes to give Jim Furyks side a glimmer of hope for the singles.

But Moliwood hogged the limelight.

And Molinari later added: "It's been absolutely amazing. But we came here to do a job, and it wasn't to go in the record books.

"It's about the team. Its about getting to 14 points. We're getting closer but those 4 points, we're going to need them tomorrow, we're going to have to fight hard for them.

"It's not going to be easy. But we're doing it properly. We're doing it the right way."
