ONE THOUSAND stranded Liverpool fans are set to miss tonights Champions League final after the citys mayor failed to resolve the utter shambles of cancelled flights.
Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson had hoped to rescue the supporters after tour operator Worldchoice Sports announced three of their Kiev-bound planes could not fly out.
He enlisted the help of former world heavyweight champion and Kiev mayor Vitali Klitschko to try to find a solution after the flights out of John Lennon Airport were denied landing slots at Boryspil Airport.
They managed to book one landing slot in Kiev but because the crew were arriving from America, the back-up plan was also KOd as staff would not get enough rest time between flights.
Anderson tweeted: Time against us. Hugely disappointed that our efforts to sort #LFC fan flights has not worked.
Frustrated by utter shambles faced by loyal fans.
Widnes-based Worldchoice said customers would get a full refund.
But supporter Jason McGimpsey, 43, fumed: This was the biggest game of my life.

A refund on the 950 trips doesnt go anywhere near compensating me.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos insisted Uefa got it wrong by choosing Kiev as hosts, with the city struggling to cope with a fan influx.
He said: Im sure many fans would have preferred to have the game closer to home to facilitate them.
This could be taken into consideration when organising such finals.
