After being restricted to substitute appearances for the Lilywhites this season, Mauricio Pochettino started the ex-Swansea star with the club already securing top spot in Group H.
And he repaid his managers trust with an exquisite finish in the 20th minute at Wembley.
Right-back Serge Aurier whipped in a low delivery just behind the 32-year-old, but with his first touch, he gloriously spun the defender before firing low past goalkeeper Nauzet Perez.
