MANAGER OF THE SEASON -PEP GUARDIOLA

This should not always go to the man who wins the title but on this occasion it has to.

You might argue that it is easy to be the best when you spend the most.

It will not have been easy for Guardiola to transform the City he took on to the one that has graced the league this season.

It was a good team he inherited but not as good as this.

People questioned whether he could transfer the Barcelona way to English football or whether he would have to bend to our ways.

BEST PLAYER - MO SALAH

A couple of months ago I was torn between Mo Salah and Kevin De Bruyne but in the end the Liverpool goalscorer could not be beaten.

It was fitting he ended the season by beating the record myself, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez held of 31 goals in a 38-game league season.

I have been in those periods when you know before a game that youll go out there and score. That is where Salah has been in this campaign.

He floats around the top line and defences dont know where he will be popping up next.

His composure and execution when a chance develops is truly exceptional.

GAME OF THE SEASON -Liverpool 4 Man City 3

Every side that have faced City this season have altered the way they play to accommodate them. Every side, that is, apart from Liverpool.

This match on January 14 was a stirring example of what can be done.

Of course, not every side has the players to do it and not every side has the ambition.

Liverpool do, as they also showed over two legs in the Champions League against Peps title-winners. This, however, was the greatest display they produced in the league.

The scoreline really does not tell the story as it was not as close as it sounds, with City grabbing two late goals when the game was done.

Credit to Guardiola for continuing to attack even when they were being picked apart.

It made for a spectacular example of the Premier League at its exciting best.

GOAL OF THE SEASON -WILLIAN

It has not been a great league season for Chelsea but their second goal in the 4-0 win at Brighton on January 20, after only six minutes, showed just what they can do.

Willian started and finished the move, first firing a pass to Eden Hazard, who flicked it on to Michy Batshuayi.

He in turn back-heeled a pass to the Brazilian and he buried a shot from 18 yards.

HERO OF THE SEASON -SEAN DYCHE

It was a tough call not to make Dyche manager of the season so I had to make up another category. To get Burnley into Europe was a remarkable achievement on his budget.

What a job he has done at a club who are an object lesson to those who panic when things start to go wrong.

Burnley had a long-term plan that meant relegation did not cost Dyche his job.

He was allowed to continue to build and come back even stronger and this has been the result.

SHOCK OF THE SEASON - THREE PROMOTED TEAMS STAYING UP

I dont know what the odds were but I wish Id had a tenner on this.

Brilliant managerial performances by Rafa Benitez, Chris Hughton and David Wagner made sure Newcastle, Brighton and Huddersfield respectively all secured their top-flight status before the final day.

It was telling that each team did it with the core of the sides that won them promotion.

Makes you wonder what they could do with a bit more investment where possible not least at my own club.
