TIGER WOODS and Phil Mickelson will meet in a winner-take-all battle worth 7million in November.
The American golf legends will square off in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving weekend of November 23-25.
Woods announced 'The Match' on Twitter on Wednesday after it had first been mooted earlier this summer.
It is expected to take place at Shadow Creek Golf Course in the Nevada desert.
Mickelson has said the format will be match play, while other details are being worked out that would allow for various challenges during the match, such as longest drive, closest to the hole, longest putt and closest out of a bunker.
Mickelson has also suggested that the pay-per-view event will see the rivals miked up for the contest so fans can get closer to the action.
Las Vegas is more used to hosting heavyweight boxing clashes, but it will be the centre of the sporting universe for a different reason in November.
The news coincided with Mickelson joining Twitter on the same day, and there was some early verbal sparring.
Mickelson commented: "I bet you think this is the easiest $9M you will ever make".
Mickelson said: "It's an opportunity for us to bring golf to the masses in prime time during a period where we don't have much going on in the world of golf.
"It's a way to show a side you don't normally see by having us miked up to hear some of the interaction between us."
Woods has returned from injury this season and come close to securing an elusive 15th Major title - ending his 10-year wait.
Tiger finished tied for sixth at The Open in July before an exhilarating run to second place in the PGA Championship this month.
Both men are competing in the Northern Trust Open at the Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey.
Mickelson is tenth in the FedEx Cup standings while Woods is 20th meaning both men are well placed to make the season-ending Tour Championship.
But the pair will both be reliant on wild cards to make the USA team for the Ryder Cup in France next month after missing out on automatic qualification.
