JORDAN SPIETH put Tiger Woods to shame as he announced he would rather win the Ryder Cup than $10million at this weeks FedEx Cup finale.
Woods infamously went the other way when asked which event he would prefer to win as he led the $1m American Express Championship the week before the 2002 Ryder Cup.
He replied: Id choose to win here, this week and I can think of a million reasons why.
But when posed the same question, Spieth, 23, declared: If youre saying Ive got a choice, then it has to be the Ryder Cup.I dont have a Ryder Cup and you always want what you dont have.
Spieth, who won the $10m FedEx prize last year, was gutted when the Americans suffered another Ryder Cup beating at Gleneagles two years ago.
And he wants to lead America to a first win since 2008 when the Yanks and Europeans do battle at Hazeltine from September 30-October 2.
He added: It hurt. When we boarded the plane back home, it was an empty feeling. We dont want that again.Im pretty confident about how were going to go about business. Weve got a fantastic team.
I actually think it might be easier to win a Ryder Cup than a FedEx Cup given that you may not play your best personally, but youve got team-mates around you.
Spieth is seventh in the current Fedex Cup standings, ahead of the final 30-man Tour Championship shootout, which starts tomorrow at East Lake, Atlanta.
Dustin Johnson leads the way.
