SportBook Service | Chris Sutton fumes thats the Kieran Tierney money gone in stinging attack on Celtics transfer policy after Cluj loss

Celtic stars in disbelief as their Champions League dreams are shattered

CHRIS SUTTON has blamed Celtic's transfer policy for the club's Champions League exit.

The Hoops' dreams of reaching the group stages were shattered after Cluj progressed into the play-offs with a 4-3 win at Parkhead.

Neil Lennon left 3million full-back Boli Bolingoli and 7m centre-back Christopher Jullien on the bench.

And after selling Kieran Tierney for 25m, Sutton believes the Scottish champions haven't brought in enough quality over the last year.

He tweeted: "That's the Tierney money gone tonight... the messing about in the last few windows has bitten Celtic on the backside... this day was always coming..."

Romanian outfit Cluj celebrated their shock win by forming a mass team huddle at full-time.

Celtic were ahead twice on the night but still managed to lose out in the seven-goal thriller.

And gutted boss Lennon admitted: If we played anywhere near as well in the first half as we did in the second half, we would have been through.

To score three goals at home and not win the game, weve only ourselves to blame.

I said to the players at half-time, Look, you are blowing it! Youre playing this game as if its a friendly! I dont know if you are disrespecting the opponent but were so flat.

I said: This is a Champions League qualifier and at this minute were going out of the competition. Is that what you want? Youve not laid a glove on the opposition for 45 minutes and you are far better than that!.

"THIS DAY WAS ALWAYS COMING"

Then of course we come out for the second half and we have cleared off the line. Jozo has a header saved and then we score.

I thought we were getting going and when we got the second goal I was thinking it would settle us.

But obviously their second goal gave them a big impetus again.

We all wanted Champions League football and we have only ourselves to blame for not getting that. Weve been loose and in important moments of the game we have switched off.

The players are bitterly disappointed as they have missed out on a good opportunity. We all have. Its a collective responsibility.

Meanwhile Rangers-daft Oli McBurnie couldn't resist sticking the boot into the Parkhead side on social media.

He posted a picture of the board game Cluedo on Twitter shortly after full-time, with the name edited to look like "Clujdo".

And he asked: "Anyone fancy a game?"
