LIONEL MESSI believes Real Madrid will struggle to retain their Champions League title following Cristiano Ronaldos departure.
The Portuguese superstar shocked supporters of the Spanish giants when he quit for a mega-money move to Italian champions Juventus.
Real failed to replace him in the transfer market, instead deciding to splash the cash on goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, right-back Alvaro Odriozola and former striker Mariano instead.
It means new boss Julen Lopetegui has a battle on his hands to keep Reals fantastic European record going by bringing home a FOURTH consecutive Champions League title.
But Barcelona ace Messi, regarded as the best player in the world alongside Ronaldo, reckons Real are no longer the continents top dogs as a result.
He has instead tipped Ronaldos new club Juventus to finally go and lift Europes biggest prize following heartbreak in two of the last four finals, adding that his former rival can be the catalyst for the Turin sides challenge.
