SportBook Service | Erling Haaland to face Liverpool a year after Man Utd blew chance to sign him

Erling Haaland is set to line up against Liverpool this week to continue his hot streak - but could have signed for Manchester United last year

ERLING HAALAND is set to line up against Liverpool on Wednesday after Manchester United botched a chance to sign him.

The Norway striker, 19, became the first teenager since Uniteds Wayne Rooney to score more than once on his Champions League debut.

Haaland hit a brilliant hat-trick in Red Bull Salzburgs 6-2 win over Genk on September 17.

He had notched 14 goals in nine games, including three hat-tricks, before yesterdays match against Austria Vienna so is in pole position to start at Anfield this week.

Haaland, the son of former Leeds midfielder Alf-Inge, signed for Molde in 2017, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge.

The family met a United representative in June 2018, the month before he scored four goals in 17 minutes against Brann aged just 17 in front of a Red Devils scout.

But in August 2018 he agreed a 2million deal to join Salzburg at the beginning of 2019.

And now his stunning goalscoring return is perking interest around Europe.

Salzburg head to Anfield on Wednesday in what is a crucial game for Jurgen Klopp's side.

The reigning European champions lost the opening game of their defence 2-0 at Napoli and know a shock defeat at home to the Austrians would leave them six points adrift of the Group E leaders.
