Tiger Woods has faith in the 'ring of steel' security at the Ryder Cup

TIGER WOODS has all faith in a 'ring of steel' security arrangement for this years Ryder Cup in terrorism-alert France.

Next months Ryder Cup at the Le Golf National host course in Versailles will see unprecedented golf-tournament security and with the likelihood of nearby businesses, including the worldwide HQ for Renault, being asked to shut down as an expected 50,000 fans flock to the venue.

Woods is no stranger to up-front security ever since stepping-out to make his pro debut in late 1996.

He was also ringed by four local Paramus Police officers on route to posting a level par 71 on the opening day of the Northern Trust and Woods' first FedEx Cup Play-Off Series event in five years.

But that will be nothing like the army strength force of Gendarmerie and French counter-terrorism police on hand, and with Woods now clearly expected to be competing inside the ropes in Versailles.

He said: I have travelled all over the world playing golf, so Ive experienced different security scenarios where ever Ive been.

I am sure the Ryder Cup will be fine and the organisers will have covered ever security issue.

I can envisage there will be so many extra measures and screening of the fans and whatever but I have no concern and it will be fine.

We saw the security in place for the London Olympics some years back and you could argue London is in a similar state of alert as France but I have all-confidence in the organisers.

And Southports Tommy Fleetwood, who played alongside Woods and finished four shots fewer than Woods, was equally unconcerned.

Fleetwood said: France has been unlucky, and if I can use that word, when you mention terrorism but I am sure the Ryder Cup organisers along with the all the local and federal French bodies will know what they are doing.

I am not going to going there worrying about anything happen because if you do, theres that old saying that they are winning if you do think that way.

So, I am sure the Ryder Cup that week will be one of the safest places on the planet.

Fleetwood upstaged Tiger Woods as he made a superb start to the megabucks FedEx Cup.

The Brit, 27, shot a four-under-par 67 on day one of The Northern Trust event in New Jersey.

That was four better than playing partner Woods, who battled to a level-par 71.

Fleetwood, runner-up in the US Open in June, said: I was a little scrappy early on but holed some great putts in my first ten holes and then it kind of dried up a bit.

Its cool being in the FedEx. I had goals at the start of the year when I knew this was my first year with full status on the PGA Tour and its nice to be a part of it.

USPGA champ Brooks Koepka, world No1 Dustin Johnson and Britains Paul Casey were among those matching Fleetwoods 67.

The overall winner of the FedEx Cup play-offs bags a 7.8million bonus.
