THORBJORN OLESEN will be one of five rookies to take to Le Golf National for Team Europe, but he is not in the Ryder Cup team due to his close relationship with captain and countryman Thomas Bjorn.
Olesen has been electric this season picking up his fifth European Tour victory alongside four top six finishes and now faces Jordan Spieth on the final day.
How old is Thorbjorn Olesen?
Olesen was born on December 21st, 1989 in Fureso, a town near Copenhagen.
That makes him 28-years-old.
He turned professional in 2008 and announced his entry to the world of gold by finishing fourth in the 2008 Scandinavian Masters.
What are Thorbjorn Olesen's achievements?
He fought his was onto the Challenge Tour in 2010 and finished third overall for the year to earn himself a place on the European tour.
He finished T2 on his European Tour debut in 2011 and then won his first European Tour event in 2012, the Sicilian Open.
Later that year he earned his first place at a major coming through a play-off to partnering Tiger Woods and finishing T9.
He has gone on to win five events on the European Tour including the Italian Open in June and he secured qualification for Team Europe, holding off Matt Fitzpatrick at the Made In Denmark event in August.
Does his name really translate as 'Thunder Bear'?
Olesen used to be known as Jacob but changed his name to Thorbjorn as it is far less common.
Thor was the Old Norse word for thunder and Bjorn is the modern Danish word for bear so whilst not an exact translation, Olesen's intentions were clear when choosing the name.
However, Olesen himself seems neither thundering nor bearlike, especially after losing to female tennis star and fellow Dane Caroline Wozniacki in a boxing match.
