Open 2018 prize money

PRIZE money for The Open is spread amongst all the professionals - so even if you finish last you're going home with a decent payday.

But those who make the cut are guaranteed a much bigger slice of the pie.

This year's total fund amounts to 7.9million, with the winner taking home a cool 1.4m.

That's slightly less than Patrick Reed raked in for winning The Masters, where the American went home with 1.5m.

If more than 70 professionals qualify for the final two rounds, additional prize money will be added to the pot.

Here's what the top-ten will be given if they're in that position come Sunday night.

  • 1st - 1,426,000
  • 2nd - 824,000
  • 3rd -528,000
  • 4th -411,250
  • 5th - 330,500
  • 6th - 287,000
  • 7th - 246,000
  • 8th - 207,500
  • 9th- 182,000
  • 10th 165,000

Finishing between 10th and 70th is hardly a disaster.

The prize money for those outside the top-ten who do make the cut ranges from 149,000 down to 18,200.

Those who miss it could be looking at 3,700.

Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, said: The prize fund reflects The Opens position as one of the worlds great sporting events and we look forward to seeing the best players in the sport competing for the Claret Jug at Carnoustie.
