Sport Book Service | Golfer Lee Slattery watches wife give birth to second child on FACETIME because he was out playing on European Tour

Lee Slattery was pleased he managed to catch the birth of his second child - even if it was on FaceTime

BRITISH golfer Lee Slattery has revealed he had to watch the birth of his second child on FACETIME.

The 39-year-old was out in Switzerland competing on the European Tour when he got the call that his wife Faye had gone into labour.

Slattery then rushed back to his apartment where he connected to his partner via the popular Apple app to ensure he didn't miss out on the action.

And two hours later his daughter Penelope was brought into the world.

Speaking to The European Tour media team, the Southport golfer said:Actually, I was told that if I wanted the baby to come I should go for an Indian meal, so here I was in an Indian restaurant and I got a phone call from my mum to say my wife had gone into labour.

But being so far away and this being such a tricky place to get to, there was no way I could make it back home once I found out she had gone into labour.

So, I rushed back to the apartment and there all of a sudden, two hours later there was a baby.

"It was very, very exciting watching it happen and I was quite emotional as I suppose you would be not being there but my wife has been great.

I had two weeks off recently thinking she might be early like our first one. That didnt happen so I had to come back to the Tour as I was on a good run of form."

Slattery had taken two weeks off for the birth, expecting his wife would be early again as she was with their first child.

But when that didn't happen, he headed out to Europe, where he finished a gallant second in the Czech Masters, despite being on edge waiting for "the call".

Next up was the European Masters in Switzerland, but before he could even tee off, he had become a dad for the second time.

And clearly Slattery had other things on his mind. In the first round he fired six bogeys and just one birdie as he carded 75 and looks like missing the cut.

At least he could be home by Saturday to make up for lost time with his new addition.
