SportBook Service | Manchester United and CSKA Moscow players confused as Champions League anthem fails to play out at Old Trafford

Manchester United line up ahead of their Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow

MANCHESTER UNITED and CSKA Moscow were left waiting for the kick off at Old Trafford last night, after a technical glitch at the ground.

Both sets of players were waiting for the iconic Champions League anthem to belt out at the Theatre of Dreams... but it appears the tape deck was stuck.

So the 22 players and match officials, as well as the mascots with each of the players, were left awkwardly standing there, with no anthems playing.

The famous tune, which is an adaptation of George Frideric Handel's Zadoc the Priest - written for the coronation of British King George II in 1727 - is played at full blast before every match and telly broadcast.

It was adapted by British composer Tony Britten in 1992.

It didn't prove a curse for Manchester United though as they won the game thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, despite CSKA scoring just before half time.

At least Twitter saw the funny side of the silence though.

One plucky fan quipped: "So technically this is a friendly win against CSKA Moscow."
