
GOLFING history will be created as part of the inaugural 2018 European Championships, co-staged in Glasgow and Berlin and part-hosted by Gleneagles.
The multi-sport event brings together the existing European Championships of athletics, aquatics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon.
But for the first time there is a Golf Team Championship at the iconic Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course.
Some of the best men and women golfers in Europe will compete side-by-side in a mouth-watering mixed event.
What is the golf event all about?
There are individual competitions for men, women and also a mixed team event.
Two different formats feature matchplay and strokeplay.
Matchplay involves two players playing head-to-head in a knockout format with the lowest score winning on each hole.
Strokeplay is the cumulative score for each player across the full 18 holes with the lowest total across all participants being the winning score.
Who will contest theEuropean Golf Team Championships?
Players from 15 countries will compete for medals on behalf of their nations including Britons Richie Ramsay,Catriona Matthew,Lee SlatteryandLaura Davies.
In the Mens Championship home favourite Ramsay will be looking for his first win on home turf playing with Englishman Ryan Evans.
Michael Hoey will represent Ireland alongside Neil OBriain looking to follow up on his last victory in Scotland at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2011.
Four-time Major winner Davies, fresh off her victory in the US Senior Womens Open, will headline the womens draw playing with newly-crowned British Open champion Georgia Hall.
2019 Solheim Cup European team captain Matthew will compete alongside Englands Holly Clyburn for the second GB team.

The golf event will be staged over 5 days between August 8-12.
What are the other key dates of the European Championships?
Around 1,500 athletes will compete in Berlin from August 7-12, while approximately 3,025 athletes will visit Scotland for the other six events from August 1-12.
