OPEN hero Alfie Plant has taken his first step into professional golf ahead of joining the paid ranks after the Walker Cup.
Millwall fan Plant joined the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy by winning the Silver Medal as low amateur at Royal Birkdale back in July.
The cheeky chappy captured the hearts of the nation with his legion of loyal supporters - and impressive golf game.
He eventually finished tied-62nd on six over par - ahead of former Masters champion Danny Willett.
And now Plant, 25, has signed a "multi-year" management deal with Lagardere Sports which will kick in once he takes on America as part of Team GB&I in Los Angeles.
European Amateur champ Plant said: "I'm really pleased to be joining Lagardere Sports.
"Everything felt right about the company given its experience and set up globally.
"They have a great team of people and I'm really excited about the next chapter for Team Alfie."
Plant, from Sundridge Park golf club in South East London, was the only amateur to make the half-way cut at Birkdale.
The Walker Cup is the amateur version of the Ryder Cup and the US are defending champions.
